PTA-Sponsored Programs:
The FLEX Spanish classes have come to an end for the year. We appreciate the response to the class from parents and students - all four classes were full this spring! We will offer Spanish class again in the fall and hope to add another language to the FLEX program as well. Look for more information in September.
If you are interested in becoming a FLEX teacher (are a native speaker, have teaching experience, etc.), please contact Joy Raftelis in the FLEX office at joyia.raftelis@fcps.edu or 703-658-1291.
If you have any questions, please email Jaimee Nygaard at jaimeenygaard@verizon.net. You can also find more information about the FLEX program on http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OACE/flex.htm.
"Girls on the Run" is a wonderful, life-changing learning program for girls in grades 3-8. The program combines physical training with healthy living education. Please email Ms. Evans at kathryn.evans@fcps.edu or Ms. Small at Michelle.Small@fcps.edu if you would like more information.
The 12-week Lego Robotics Club for grades 3-6 ended with a demonstration at Math and Science night. The feedback on the club was very positive and we are planning to offer the class again in the fall.

FAIRGRADE:
FAIRGRADE website
FAIRGRADE is a grading policy advocacy group. It was created in January 2008 following a December 2007 Washington Post article that highlighted the disparities between Fairfax County and Montgomery County grading policies. This is a problem affecting all FCPS students. Please refer to page 7 of our April 2008 Newsletter for more information.

Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC):
FPYC website
The Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC) organizes all types of sports teams for children in Fairfax - Soccer, Basketball, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, T-ball/Softball, Wrestling, Running/Track&Field, Volleyball.
You can register your child by going to the website above or by walk-in registration (call hotline 703-591-FPYC (3792) for details).
The FPYC attempts to form soccer teams by neighborhood, typically by closest elementary school. If your child would like to be part of a team of players that attend Eagle View ES, please indicate it in the "Special Request" box - just to be sure. Please refer to the FPYC website for information on how teams are formed for other sports. (Some sports simply do not work well unless the talent is spread around evenly.)
If you would like to volunteer as a coach, you can register at the website above.
Feel free to
email
us, if you have any questions.

Safe and Sound:
Help Kids Stay Safer:
On May 25, communities across the country put child safety at the top of their to-do lists with Take 25, a campaign of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® to commemorate National Missing Children’s Day, heighten awareness about children’s safety issues, and encourage parents to talk to their children about ways to be safer. Be sure to check out the valuable parent resources on http://www.pta.org/take25 and http://www.take25.org/informed/. (Spanish-language resources on http://es.take25.org/)
Internet Safety:
Keeping our children safe online has become a top priority for parents. "Enough Is Enough" (EIE) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that emerged in 1994 as the national leader on the front lines to make the Internet safer for children and families. Be sure to check out their website http://www.enough.org or call 1-888-744-0004 for more information.
Crime Prevention:
As you may know, the Fair Oaks District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department recently called a meeting of residents, to discuss the growing numbers of burglaries, thefts from vehicles and vehicle tamperings. During this meeting, the Police pointed out the benefits of Neighborhood Watches. Some of our communities have stepped up to the plate! We applaud the Fair Chase Community - which surrounds Eagle View ES - for organizing a Neighborhood Watch. Signs are expected to be installed by mid/end July.
Contrary to popular belief, the Neighborhood Watch program does not mean you have to patrol your community with a flashlight at night. It rather focuses on personal, vehicular and home security and is passive in nature. Its main goals are awareness and reporting to police. If you have any questions regarding the Fair Chase Neighborhood Watch program, feel free to contact Lance Crystal at 571-230-7010.
If you would like more information about Neighborhood Watch programs in general, please contact your local District Police Station or go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/POLICE/police15c.htm. Also consider visiting the Police Department’s crime prevention website (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/POLICE/crime_prev.htm). It offers a wealth of information ranging from Child Safety Tips to Self Defense Courses for Women.
